09/15/2009 I had a CABG x3 in 2004 at age 45. I am 6'1" and weigh 165 lbs (11 stone 11lbs). I have a family history of high choloestrol. I also have a reduced ejection fraction. My cardio is currently recommending an ICD. I just completed a series of 3 sprint triathlons and an olympic distance triathlon. Last weekend my century ride was cut short at 56 miles due to heavy weather (oh well). I am planning a half marathon when the weather cools down. Swim ride run.
03/09/2010 Alot has happened since my last visit. I got that ICD gizmo in October 2009. So far so good. Mine is a St Jude model which is a defibrillator and pacemaker in one. How cool is that? I have done 2 half marathons since then. The best was a 2:03 in Albany Georgia, U.S.A. on March 6 2010 where I managed to beat my old buddy William Mood from Atlanta for the first time in 20 years. I plan to run 15K this Saturday and hope to do several local triathlons again this summer here in Jacksonville, Florida, USA.
Treatment(s)
a beta blocker, an ace inhibitor, 3 choloestrol meds.
I've always been a casual runner but my pre-CABG performance gradually became very poor. Post CABG athletic performance is MUCH improved even with heart attack damage.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
No formal rehab...just a gradual return to a race schedule
Present Training Regime
I train an hour a day before or after work as the daily schedule allows.
Achievements as a Cardiac Athlete
maintaining a fairly regular race schedule.
Future Goals
my goal is to have no future goals
Motivator(s)
when I need motivators I randomly read the profiles on this site. They are all inspirational.
Thanks to
The Good Lord and everyone in the medical industry for giving me a second chance.
