I have great pleasure in announcing the addition of both a Forums link and Shop link for this website where visitors and cardiac athletes will be able to converse and share their experiences and advice directly with eachother. It has always been my wish to add this facility to the website but it is only recently that finances, time and knowledge have enabled me to provide this. Up until now I have paid for this project out of my own pocket but I hope that some if not all of this cost can be covered by merchandise sold through the shop. I have only added £1 per item, therefore 86 T-shirts covers the cost of the forums for a year. I will also use any revenue to cover web hosting costs and to make improvements to the site. So appologies for the delay and happy chatting and oh, ... please order at least one T-shirt today ! Thanks.

Thanks very much for your kind words. We don’t generally have non-Australian sites linked, but yours was considered to be of general value to runners everywhere so worthy of inclusion – so well done yourself. I have added your link details to our links page at: http://www.coolrunning.com.au/links.shtml - and added a link to our homepage. I would greatly appreciate a reciprocal link back to CoolRunning in return, if that could be arranged.
Many Thanks

Just a reminder to all swimmers – the SHARRON DAVIES MILE SWIM CHALLENGE takes place 11-25 May helping with funds for Childline – and any Cardiac Athletes who have a go. Pick up a leaflet at your pool. And in March 2004 the Butlins Swimathon takes place. You’ve just missed this years event.

I was very happy to see your site as I suffered a heart attack 4 months ago at the age of 39. I’ve always been fairly fit and healthy ( I ran the London marathon at the age of 20 ) so having an MI at 39 was a bit of a blow. I would like to be able to get in touch with others who share my experience – perhaps you could include the chance for people to enter their e-mail addresses or include a discussion board on the site.
Thanks.

I congratulate you on a wonderful beginning. Any solid information that Cardiac patients can obtain to help them through feelings of isolation and aloneness is beneficial. Although your mission clearly states goals related to Physical performance, my experience in Cardiac Psychology quite clearly reveals that attention to the Psyche is necessary if any increase in performance is to be gained. I have worked as an ICU nurse and Cardiac Rehab Nurse for 10 years. I switched my focus to Psychology after noticing the tremendous lack of attention given to psychologic matters and the heart. As a Psychotherapist I currently specialize in Los Angeles leading Cardiac Support Groups and in individual therapy for those with heart disease and their heartmates. Attention to the psychological barriers which quite naturally occur with this population needs attention. Perhaps information addressing common fears and concerns and how they are overcome could be addressed in your News and Views section. If you are interested in hearing more please contact me. Sincerely,
Ellyn Singer MFT Phd Candidate, Los Angeles, USA.

I have visited your site and am in broad agreement with it’s contents. I very much like the idea of highlighting the achievements of cardiac patients post-op in your “ Cardiac Athletes Page “. In fact, this very much coincides with my own objectives when agreeing that my own story be told in a number of publications and later on my own website. I wanted to help patients who were awaiting surgery, feel more positive about their own future. I should like to draw your attention to my story and post-op achievements as my own form of surgery was a little unusual. I went on to complete my first post-op Swimming Marathon only 5 months after valve replacement surgery by Ross Procedure. For my own story and other articles written by me including one on cardio rehab and on a fitness prescription scheme operating in my area, please visit http://www.jsvelho.org You may even be interested in arranging reciprocal links to each others sites.

I saw your website in Runner’s World. This is something that I have been looking for for a while. I think the FAQ and Cardiac Athlete pages are excellent and the other pages are very good too.

Here's a couple of thoughts on events. First, there is Sharron Davis 1 mile national swim event coming up. I'll send details. Second, for running put in a link to www.runnersworld.com as there is a lot of info on getting started and training tips but although the magazine lists a lot of events for several months ahead the website seems to like the international stuff too ! Thirdly, this time of year and summer, suggest that people seek out local fun runs at village fetes, etc. No pressure or embarassment, can take the family and have a drink after, etc. Fourth, suggest people go to their local sports centre, often clubs will leave entry forms around to pick up or buy Runners World magazine. After a few runs they can join a club and will hear of more events than they could manage.

In my opinion, this website is going to make a lot of people very happy ! Aside from the huge amount of information found on these pages there is the terrific opportunity for personal interaction and involvement. I know of one such ' cardiac athlete ' who will be thrilled with this website. Can I also just mention that the layout is excellent and very easy to navigate. I don't even have any constructive criticism ! Rock on !
