Resting pulse: 48 per minute Maximum training pulse: Not sure. My cruising rate when running is 153 per Heart condition(s): Heart attack at 7.00 a.m. on 20/1/1999 Fitness before treatment(s): Had smoked for 30 years, eventually reaching 50 cigarettes per day. Wrong diet, high stress, sedentary lifestyle, but not overweight. Family history of heart attack, possibly/probably smoking-related. Treatment(s): Aspirin, Captopril, Atenolol, Atorvastatin. Cardiac rehabilitation: Quit smoking immediately after heart attack. Changed to healthy diet. Took up walking 3 times a week as originally advised, but gradually progressed to jogging and then running. Present training regime: Two serious training sessions per week with local running club, plus a road race at the week-end. Achievements as a Cardiac Athlete: Have so far done 12 half marathons with a PB of 1:57:07. Completed Leeds Marathon on 12/5/2002 in 4:47:18. Training tip(s): Just do it! Future goal(s): London Marathon April 2003 in under 4 hours 30 mins. New York Marathon in November 2003 in under 4 hours 15 mins. To run a 10k in under 48 minutes (current PB 50:31). Motivator(s): Staying alive! Thanks to: The ICU at Hospital Universitario de la Princesa in Madrid for getting me through the initial heart attack.
