Age: 51

Height: 6ft

Weight: 150 lbs

Resting pulse: 49 Max. 188.

Heart condition(s): Angina and heart attack (presumably minor & sub endural )

Fitness pre treatment: Good but declined for 9 months till condition was diagnosed Had Angio plasty 3 lumps squashed and 1 stent put in

Rehab: None, the hospital was doing an evaluation experiment and I was one of the guinea pigs who just got a booklet training on a good week! 25k running 5 k swim 40 k cycle and perhaps a circuit training session, game of tennis etc. Joined a Triathalon club, did several sprint Tri's (getting faster!) and a couple of Olympic distance Tri's - freezing back to doing 1/2 marathons and had a couple of goes at Manchester velodrome indoor cycle track - terrifying. Do the annual Swimathon - boring, and tried snowboarding - disaster.

Tips:
1. Whilst waiting for treatment keep going if only stretching, swim if you can, it's ideal and you can pace yourself very accurately.
2. It hurts when you get going again but remember what you used to do. Do a bit more each day - gradually walk less run more/ drop a gear on the bike /do another 10 lengths etc. Recognise that you're going to be very nervous about exertion for a long time but keep up the pressure and remember that you survived the last effort.
3. Swimming is ideal providing you learn a good technique
4: Don't try snowboarding over 40 (now there's a challenge laid down for someone)
5: ENJOY YOURSELF

Goals: Like to do a marathon again and do more cycling and just keep at it biggest goal is to get more time to spend playing!

Motivators:
1. The Kids
2. I'd Just bought some new training shoes

Thanks to: Wife, family, a laid back GP and (seriously) your mag which came along at exactly the time when I needed to know I wasn't the only heart patient around who wanted to be properly fit again. Hope you get some more responses, I've put the word out round here.
