Age: 53 Sex: Male Occupation: Child Mental Health Specialist Country: Wales Height: 5 feet 8 inches Bodyweight: 140 lbs Resting pulse: 48 per minute Maximum training pulse: 186 per minute Heart conditions: Arterial Schlerosis (CAD) Fitness before treatment(s): Quite fit until two months before diagnosis. Treatments: Triple bypass grafts 2001 at the Manchester Royal Infirmary. Cardiac rehabilitation: No formal programme - self experimentation. Present training regime: I run up to 8 miles and race up to 10k. I bike including some endurance events, plus circuit training, 'spinning' and squash. Achievements as a Cardiac Athlete: Since December 2001 completed several road races up to 10k. Best time was 41 minutes. I completed the ' Tough Guy ' endurance event and 100k mountain bike one day challenge. Training tips: Use the time run as the basis for increasing distance covered in runs NOT the miles themselves. Future goal(s): To do a sub 40 minute 10k and get close to sub 30 for 5 miles again. Motivator(s): : Enjoy exercise / competition. Pride in being fit for my age. Hate being ' victimised ' by anything. Thanks to: My GP friend who realised that my ' post flu ' discomfort on runs was more than that!
