Age: 56 Heart condition: Suffered a heart attack after 60 lengths swim. 2 stents inserted 11 Nov 2002 Fitness before treatment(s): Fair. To keep fit for competitive sailboarding, UK national series, would train every weekday, swimming and gym over winter. Treatments: Ramipril 10mg, Simvastatin 20mg, Aspirin 75mg, Atenolol 25 mg currently paused after difficulty with training. Cardiac rehabilitation: Initially tried to build swimming and attended gym session organised by local hospital was not able to build level without discomfort of lactic acid build up and feeling of only firing on three cylinders. Present training regime: Have paused atenolol to see if training any better and to watch blood pressure. If it rises will ask to try different beta blocker. Latest(22/8/03): Doctor not happy at me coming off atenolol, trying alternate days. Achievements as a Cardiac Athlete: Have been able to sailboard again for pleasure and compete in one off races but not for complete racing weekend to date. Training tip: In desperate need of receiving specific guidance on training levels and progress to full fitness. Future goal(s): Get back to completing full season of racing. Motivators: Family support throughout, Not to waste doctors and hospitals efforts. Thanks to: Rehab doctor and Paramedics for initial treatment.
